Frequently Asked Questions

An NP is an advanced practice provider who can offer services similar to those of a family physician. NPs in Ontario are authorized to diagnose illnesses, order and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, treat and manage acute and chronic illnesses and make specialist referrals. NPs use a holistic approach to care that considers the whole person, not just their physical health. They often use a combination of conventional and holistic treatments to create individualized care plans that promote healing and well-being.
NPs are accountable for providing safe, ethical, and competent care to their clients (CNO, 2023). They are responsible for their professional conduct and practice, and must meet the standards as outlined by the College of Nurses of Ontario (CNO, 2023).

Although most laboratory and diagnostic tests are covered by OHIP, NP services are not, as specified in the Canada Health Act. Additionally, some specialty tests we may recommend, based on your risk level, may not be covered by OHIP. We will always inform you about the tests we suggest and the associated costs. We also recommend reviewing your private insurance plan, as you might have coverage through your extended healthcare or wellness accounts.

Some of our services may be covered through your extended healthcare spending and wellness accounts. We encourage you to review your policy and discuss with your private insurance provider.
